Physician Referrals

Eye Department has earned the trust of generations of families by delivering consistent, high-quality eye care across all stages of life. Optometrist Annie Bacon believes that family history and early hyperopia are the strongest predictors of future myopia. In 2013, Dr. Bacon launched the Eye Heart Baby program providing eye examinations to newborns and infants aged 6mo to 2.5 yrs.

Eye Department has invested in the latest technology to ensure consistent data and ensure treatment plan monitoring. Using a proactive approach myopia management for children provides the best opportunity to preserve lifetime vision health.

Our approach goes beyond routine vision screening by establishing meaningful clinical baselines. This includes refractive status, axial length measurement, age of onset and rate of progression. These indicators are measured alongside clinically important factors like family history of myopia, visual behaviors, and lifestyle factors.

By identifying children at risk earlier, we see higher success in implementing non-invasive, evidence-based myopia management options. This include specialty contact lenses, low-dose atropine and eyeglass lenses designed to slow progression and reduce long-term ocular complications. We provide clear communication and consistent patient follow up, allowing referring providers to stay informed and confident in their patients’ visual development.

We prioritize gentle first line interventions to address eye growth early to help slow the progression of myopia, including early detection, ongoing monitoring, and coordinated management of eye care complications. Eye Department Optometrists partner with outside physicians to provide comprehensive myopia management solutions and systemic eye disease. Treatments options are tailored to the patient and may include nightly eye drops, myopia management contact lenses, or the latest FDA approved specialty eyeglass lenses.

Each myopia management patient is scheduled for regular follow-up visits to closely monitor the effectiveness of each patient’s myopia management plan. Follow-up appointments may be scheduled at 2,4,6 and 12th month or 3, 6, and 12 months, depending on individual protocols. This allows us to make timely adjustments, track progression and ensure treatment remains tailored to the patient’s individual needs.

When you refer a patient to Eye Department, you can expect clear communication, timely updates, and a shared commitment to clinical excellence. Together, we can help reduce the risk of future ocular complications associated with progressive myopia while delivering a seamless experience for both you and your patients.
