Nightly Eye Drops

Low Dosed Atropine Eye Drops

One of the most effective and well-studied tools we have for myopia management is low-dose atropine eye drops. These drops are used nightly and work by slowing the signals that drive excessive eye elongation. At low concentrations (0.05%), atropine has been shown to significantly reduce the progression of myopia with minimal side effects. Most children tolerate these eye drops very well, with little to no impact on pupil size or near vision. While atropine does not “cure” myopia or eliminate the need for glasses, it can meaningfully reduce how quickly your child’s prescription worsens.

In practical terms, nightly atropine drops may lower their risk of developing high myopia and the associated complications later in life. When we identify a child with progressing myopia, we recommend immediate treatment protocols before significant elongation occurs. Managing myopia early is not simply about improving vision today, it is about protecting your child’s long-term eye health. Slowing the rate of eye growth during childhood, when progression is most rapid, is critical. Safeguarding your child's vision for the future is our priority.

If your child is identified as a candidate for treatment, we will closely monitor their progress through regular follow up examinations.. These examinations often occur on a schedule like 3,6, and 12 month or 2,4,6 and 10th month, depending on severity of myopic shift observed by our Optometrist.

The atropine eye drop prescriptions are specialty compound pharmaceuticals but not all compounding pharmacies are able to compound eye drops.. We typically recommend the online mail-order compound pharmacy called OSRx that delivers direct to patient. OSRx makes the ordering and shipping process easy for patients and they have competitive prices.
